Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in the country.  For the eighth straight year in a row, identity theft is the #1 consumer complaint reported to the Federal Trade Commission.  Up 22% from the year before.  Identity theft is intrusive, dangerous, expensive and extremely frustrating to it's victims.....

Identity theft itself is nothing new--it has been going on for decades. The practice of stealing money or getting other benefits by pretending to be another person is very old.

What’s new is the way in which identities are being stolen today. Just as Internet technology has evolved to Web 2.0 the same can be said for identity theft in that it has reached a new threshold of Identity Theft 2.0.   Most of the vulnerabilities we face today and in the future are beyond our personal control.

A recent news publication notes that identity theft will increase 20 times in the next 20 months.

Identity theft continues to thrive despite efforts by governmental agencies, businesses, consumer advocates, and law enforcement. Identity thieves keep finding innovative new ways to steal, and are becoming more sophisticated and skilled at their craft.

Identity theft can unravel a person’s life. The process of restoring your name can be overwhelming and costly. It could take years and thousands of dollars, and one can never be sure if it will strike again or if the matter has been completely taken care of.
